Christian Fügl (b. 1964, Regensburg) lives on a rustic farm in the Upper Palatinate equipped with a woodworking shop and laser technology.
You say there is no such thing as an ideal world? Think again! It’s hidden in a kit made of cardboard, chipboard, and plexiglass – and no bigger than a pack of cigarettes. Inside: miniatures. No people, just houses, trees, animals, and a crooked fence. Freely arrangeable. So too the little dogs made of wood. Creatures and rampant vegetation are also in there; falling into the shadows, growing into incredibly light formations.
Fügl’s objects bring our gaze from the smallest dimensions outward, turning Man and his surroundings into actors in the same play.
You can have it; in fact it is within reach, but only here and now: an idyllic world.
