Slavoj Kovařík

Olomouc 1923 – Prague 2003

Painter, draughtsman, stage designer, theoretist. 1939–1941 he studied at Škola umění Zlín. 1942–1945 in forced labour camp in Graz. After WWII studied at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. At the beginning he was influenced by cubism, from the end of 1940s he focused on cipher rhythmic abstract-like landscapes and city sceneries. In Olomouc he stood in openly opposition to the doctrine of socialist realism. 1960s he developped his own varieta of french Nouveau Réalism and american Pop-Art. His work is to be found in Olomouc Museum of Art, Museum Kampa in Prague and many private collections across the Europe.
