The Wind of the Gods of Words—an anthology marking the 80th birthday of poet and essayist Miloslav Topinka—is loosely inspired by his own initiative from the 1970s. It includes works by a number of Czech authors who, in their contributions, have attempted to capture their experiences with the wind, the sky, the clouds, and the stars. In his work, Miloslav Topinka explores the search for cracks—beyond space, beyond language. He says that in poetry, it is “constantly about the same fundamental, immediate experience, lived through and through, about reality perceived with the whole body. And about an awareness of connections, an experience of deep unity. Of man with nature, with the universe.” The authors of poems, short stories, translations, essays, photographs, and paintings in this anthology present their own perspective on this reality and, in doing so, pay tribute to a creator who can rightly be called a seer.
