Peter Eng

Cartoonist, draughtsman, film animator, poet and entertainer. Born in cultivated jewish family. His brother Paul was architect and philosopher, pupil of Adolf Loos. Sister Anny (pseud. Suska) illustrator of children books. Eng flew in age of 16 to USA, where he lived as comic strip author in New York and Philadelphia. Overseas he learned film art. Since 1918 lived and worked in Vienna. Along with Louis Seel and Ladislaus Tuszyński he is today counted as a european pioneer of film animation. He created more then 200 animation short films for advertisment. At the and of 1920s due to decline of austrian film industry, he moved to Berlin and worked together with controversial Hitler´Clairvoyent Erik Jan Hanussen. Day after the German troops marched into Olomouc he committed together with his wife Anny Pölz suicide. His work collects and preserves Filmarchiv Austria in Laxenburg near Vienna.
