Osip Mandelstam: Ode (to Stalin)

Russianist and translator Alexandr Jeništa comments on his translation of the famous poem by the Russian classic.
At the beginning of the last year of his exile, Osip Mandelstam writes his Ode, which, according to many, should have saved his life; according to others, it broke his neck. An ambiguous, multi-layered, formally classical work that constantly oscillates between irony and apotheosis, it remains an enigma to this day. Ode was published in 2015 in the Rub bilingual edition, in Czech translation for the first time.
The evening will feature an original voice reading by Osip Mandelstam.
Russian tea from the samovar will be served.
