Musician, painter, draughtsman, poet. Studied in Berlin. In 1905 he encountered theosophy and mazdaznan and joined the expressionist circle around Herwarth Walden in Berlin. 1910 member of Neue Sezession Berlin. Friendship with Gabrielle Münter and Wassily Kandinsky. 1920 joined anthroposophical society and moved to Dornach. 1937 was by nazi authorities forced to move back to Germany. He lived in seclusion in Stuttgart and after WWII he co-founded Arbeitskreis anthroposophischer bildender Künstler. From his expressionistic and abstract orphist beginnings he develloped his own „Other modernity“ based on fusion of meditative mood landscapes together with enigmatical faces and colour rhythmic plans.
